Thought Experiment
Ok, I’d like you to think of Darlingside as a happy bridegroom, and I’d like you to think of our new studio basement as a nubile young bride, and I’d like you to imagine the recent union of the two as a happy musical marriage. And the newlyweds have been getting pretty frisky these past few weeks, but generally retreating to their own sides of the bed before things begin to really heat up. Well, tonight, it all got consummated. Our rehearsal was especially exciting and productive, filled with new ideas and solid execution of old ones. Then, equally exciting was the post-dinnerlude, when Sam and Harris finally laid down some cello/drum recordings for our first new track, “Surround”. The recording is the specific part that I was attempting to compare to consummating a marriage, and you can stop thought experimenting now, if you’re still at it. Actually, keep experimenting for one second, because also Sam didn’t save the tracks and his computer crashed and so they lost their first six takes, and had to re-do the whole thing after midnight, which was like the first big fight, especially when one of the mics got knocked over, but then obviously they/we made up and it was fine.
So basically, we’ve started recording. It’s like consummating a marriage.
