    • When we become rock stars by Auyon

At our average show, we spend about twice as much time shuffling our instruments and gear in and out of venues than we do actually playing our instruments (or, in Sam’s case, “playing” his “instrument.”) While the process has had its benefits, such as well-developed pecs and deltoids, it has grown tiresome. It may be […]

Following on the success of Snoop Dogg’s appearance this April, Brooklyn Bowl decided to go with Caitlin Canty and Darlingside for their big followup tomorrow night (June 15, 8:30 PM).  Fresh off an appearance in the frigid northerly climes of Portland, Maine, these complimentary acts (Caitlin, you’re pretty!) are bringing their freshly released albums to […]

    • Cello, Goodbye by Dave

I know, it’s been forever. I’d begun writing a blog post a few days ago in the back seat of the band’s brand new van, but my computer was so exhausted from burning CDs that the batteries LITERALLY jumped out of the encasing and slapped me in the face for trying to use them en […]

Biography

Darlingside is a Northampton, MA-based string rock quintet. Lush vocal harmonies, classical cello-violin duets and compelling break-beats characterize the band’s sound. Darlingside keeps audiences on their toes with exuberant stage presence, spontaneous a cappella, interlocking instrumental melodies, and a setlist brimming with engaging, eclectic new songs.

Darlingside began performing in New England in January 2010, and has already played to packed houses from Boston to New York City.  After a busy spring, including a headlining slot at the prestigious Paramount Theater in Rutland, VT, and Mayfair in Harvard Square, these five musicians and their bold new songs are poised to explode onto stages all across the Northeast.

Darlingside is:
Auyon Mukharji: vocals, violin, mandolin, saz
Don Mitchell: vocals, guitar
Sam Kapala: vocals, drums, pennywhistle
David Senft: vocals, bass guitar, guitar
Harris Paseltiner: vocals, cello, guitar

“Darlingside has the sound that spans the ages.“
— BerkshireOnStage.com

“It’s easy to see what separates these musicians from the rest of the pack.“
— Telegram.com

“[…] the insanely talented string-rock quintet Darlingside from Northampton. […] Darlingside seamlessly melded hook-drenched classical-rock melody lines with substantially infectious grooves, thanks in no small part to arguably the meatiest drums one has ever heard played under a string section. Even more impressive is that despite the overwhelming instrumental presence, the vocals were, if anything, even more noteworthy, as they resonated clearly and truly without being buried by the amazing instrumental skills.“
— UMass Daily Collegian

“Every song was unexpected […] Their music was so powerful and beautiful“
— The Williams Record

“Make no mistake, this small town college band has been growing tall around the Northampton area.“
— UMass Daily Collegian

Other Artists

“As individuals, each member of Darlingside could easily be a top notch solo artist. Together, they are a powerhouse of vocal, instrumental, songwriting, and performing talent. Their energy is contagious, their sound is unpredictable, and their songs are unforgettable. They are definitely one of today’s bands to watch out for.”
— Bernice Lewis, singer/songwriter

“[…] some of the best voices I’ve ever heard […] Their electric cello and string-driven sound is full of life and energy. They are brilliant.“
— Caitlin Canty, singer/songwriter

“Speaking of girls… how about Darlingside!?”
— Suz Slezak, David Wax Museum

Venues

“You aren’t going to believe how great they are. They left a mark in my skull, wanting more…“
— Erick Godin, Owner, Lucky Dog Music Hall, Worcester, MA

“While some new bands seem to struggle to find both their own sound and a welcoming audience, Darlingside thunders onto the scene with a surprisingly rich voice that belies their relative youth and demands that people take notice… which we most definitely have.“
— David Fried Oppenheim, Executive Director, Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton

“Delightful local pop“
— Iron Horse Entertainment Group, Northampton, MA

“F***ing Awesome!“
— Mark Sheehan, Booker, The Elevens, Northampton, MA
